2018 NLCC Champs

Friday, June 1 2018 - NLCC Outdoor Championships Boys


On May 10th the boys track and field team won the Northern Lake County Conference championship.  The last time the Sequoits won the conference title was in 1981.  The team scored 158 points, beating Grant by 20 points.  The team crowned 5 individual conference champions and 20 all conference athletes.  Charlie Smith (3200 and 1600) and Matt Becker (shot put and discus) each won 2 conference championships, while junior Zach Grindley was the conference champion in the long jump.  Other notable performances include senior Javen London earning all conference in 3 events (100, 300IH, and 200), while Sophomore TreShawn Watson earned all conference in 4 events (110HH, 300IH, long jump, and triple jump).  The 4x800 relay of Kevin Tebbe, Mike Volkmar, Joe Kestian, and Josh Linck placed 4th each earning all conference recognition.  Andrew Johnson, Mike Volkmar, and Josh Linck brought home big points in the distances as Johnson placed 3rd in the 3200 running 10:08, Volkmar ran 2:04 to finish 4th in the 800 and Linck had a nice finish to pick up points in the 1600.  The 4x200 relay of Ryan Shaputis, Mathias Madigan, Athan Kaliakmanis, and Ben Nauman placed 3rd tallying 6 important team points.  Robert Christiansen and Dino Kaliakmanis both placed in the 400 meter dash placing 3rd and 6th respectively.  Christiansen came back later in the night to place 2nd in the 200 meter dash.  The Sequoits may have won the conference with the performances in the field.  Junior Jay Brown was the runner up in the high jump clearing 5'10".  Grindley not only won the conference in the long jump, but he placed 2nd in the triple jump and 3rd in the high jump.  The pole vault had 2 all conference performers in Nico Fier and Tyler Oslage who placed 2nd and 4th respectively.  Chase Becker came up big for the team as he finished 2nd in the discus and 5th in the shot put.
