On Saturday, November 9th senior Charlie Smith became the first state champion in cross country in Antioch Community High School history.  After winning his 1st sectional championship in XC a week earlier, Smith went into the state meet as the underdog.  He ran stride for stride with Sam Lange of Morton HS.  With about 200 meters to go, Smith relied on his speed to pull away and bring home the state title with a time of 14:46 (PR).  His state championship was the schools first in XC and only the second in school history.  Former cross country and track and field captain, Patrick Schoenfelder, won a state championship in wrestling in 2017.
